« on: Saturday 07 June 08 10:03 BST (UK) »

Looking for Maria's parents .... she was born approx 1835 in Morsh Curry (is that the spelling??) I have census material for 1861 and onwards but nothing pre marriage (1841 & 1851 - Bawler is her maiden name). Any advice guys?

Couldn't find anything!  Undecided I'd get the marriage cert to find out her father's name and any witnesses that might give us a clue... (she married a Thos W Haliday if I remember correctly from the censuses I found her on 1861 onwards)

no Maria Bawler / Haliday marriage I can see (FreeBMD)  Huh

Suspect the PoB is North Curry .... In 1841, searching for Maria born c1835 in that district - no surnames like Bawler - altho there is a 50 year old Maria Bawler in the area ...

Did you get the maiden name from a Birth Cert ?

Yes thats the one I found and couldn't find an Emma or Maria in 1841/51 that would fit, closest was a Maria Bawly of correct age but in Gloucestershire (just children in the household plus governess and couple of other servants) Undecided

Thank you guys for all the info of marriage etc .... that part I do have, along with the 1861 census and onwards .... just cant work out the lack of info pre 1861 ... (where is she on the 41 and 51 census?!!) DoB of 1835 is a bit of a bummer ... cant obtain a birth certificate

a possible scenario is that her father died and mother remarried and shes' using stepfathers name in those census .... you might be able to sort it by examining deaths and marriages in the period up to 1841.

Or locate the Parish registers - not on the IGI it seems  Sad
