Charles Alford
« on: Saturday 07 June 08 15:13 BST (UK) »

I am looking for information on Charles Alford. Born 1808 UK went to Aus and finally settling in Tasmania  ( maybe went right to Tas )married in 1839 in Campbell Town Tas. I have been told he arrived Christmas 1830 but unable to find him on any ship or emigration papers. Is there any KS out there that has this man in their tree or can help please.
              Many thanks Dee

Hello Dee

Do you know if your man arrived in Australia as a convict or free settler? He was of the age to be either. There are very few lists online for free settlers to Tasmania - an email to the archives may find him, if he was a free settler, but they can take some weeks to respond.

Tasmanians had many ways in the 19th (and to a degree the 20th) century of hiding their convict ancestry - so it is always worth checking.
