Township tracing - Galway
« on: Saturday 07 June 08 15:59 UTC (UK) »

I noticed on another post that Migky said where the grandparents married in England - if it was RC they would have info on  the Irish parish.  Would this always be the case.  My ancestors were married in an English RC church in 1855 - is it likely they may have some info on where my ancestors originated.  They were married age 20 but dont know how long they lived in england before that.  Cheers mbee

Npt sure if such information will be in all R.C. church records in England but perhaps this posting could be moved to whichever area in England they settled so someone might be able to answer your question.

Roman Catholic parishes where a wedding is to be held usually must contact the parish where the persons to be married were baptized.  There is then a notatation made on the Baptismal record of the marriageat the church where the person were baptized   Banns of Marriage are required to be announced three times in both the the bride and grooms parish, in the event that anyone objects or knows of a reason the marriage should not take place.
