I am looking for a James Forsyth who married Mary Gray 27/08/1900 and was living in 8 Robinson Street, Hartlepool. If i have my information correct, this was his second marriage. Previous marriage was to someone Margaret Cowen December 1888. I think the 1891 census would show James Married to Margaret with 1901 showing him married to Mary. Any help would much appreciated.
I know in 1900 he was 37 with Mary being 32 both detailed as being widowed.

James 28 b Belfast - shipyard labourer
Margaret 24 b Jarrow
Edith 4 b West Hartlepool
Jane Cowan 54 widow shown as father but age entered in the female column b Belfast
James Cowan son 20 b Jarrow
Jane is shown as a shipyard labourer!!

looks like the data for the two James I have is for two different people. I had thought from some birth data I got today that James had remarried as I have a marriage to Mary Gray where they are both listed as widowed. Also have from birth records that James married to Mary while living at 8 Robinson Street, but also living with Margaret at the same address.

This info is great....just need to establish were it all fits. I currently now have two Forsyth's that I cant match up both born in Ireland - James and William. Whilst I another born in Scotland, marrying someone from Ireland (possibly in Ireland or Scotland), moving to USA (where he could have also got married), before moving back to Scotland, then somehow ending up in sunny Hartlepool!!!!

Hi
The enumerator has firstly put age 54 in the male column then crossed it out and transferred it to the female column but has shown status as "father"
I have enlarged the image and compared the enumerators "J" with others on the page and the jury's still out but to me it looks like Jane
However - how many mums worked as shipyard labourers in those days?
Need to check the 1881

I've just checked the 1881 and the 1891 must be James Cowen
