How do you currently store your family history data Annie? Do you use a software package ? If so which one?

I think you were planning on setting up a Tribal Pages site Annie...as Silvery suggests, you can enter the data directly...you don't need to create a gedcom file first.

Annie, can you find where the info is stored on your computer? What is the file name? It might be that it can be converted by one of us to a GEDCOM. It might also have also been backed up as a GEDCOM.

phpmyfamily is a dynamic genealogy website builder allowing geographically dispersed family members to co-ordinate and share research. Users can import and export GEDCOM files, upload images and document transcripts and monitor changes to individuals.

According to the information above you should be able to export a gedcom file.  Open the program and click on Help and search for gedcom.

Oh ! I thought I had to do a gedcom first Shaun !! ...... but does that mean I have to imput each man individually ?

Meles ... all my info is on the thread ... I haven't put it anywhere yet !  Undecided

Downside ... I haven't put the info I want for the web page on phpmyfamily yet ... that's just the one I used for my family !

If you did already have a gedcom then it would be very easy to upload it and Tribal Pages would generate web pages from that....but if you don't then, yes you would have to input each person individually.

A thread on a forum cannot be turned into a gedcom.
A gedcom is a specific type of text file designed to communicate relationships (genealogical databases) between different family history software.

To display a thread on a webpage the thread needs to be turned into htm or html files.

Annie,

Have a look at the Rootschat Technical board again and you will see three above you query, the Topic which is for Family History software . You will need a programme and some are free on line.

Gedcoms are explained there too.

The easiest way is to use a genealogy software.

But as yours, Annie, has "gone down the Swanee"  (Grin),  you needn't worry. Just add the info to Tribal Pages. I think then you can turn the info into a GEDCOM.

First of all, Guy is right.  Annie, have you ever entered all your names, dates of birth, marriages etc into a family history software programme, such as PAF or FamilyTreeMaker, Legacy, FamilyHistorian etc ?

When you enter your names and information into one of the family history software programmes, as above, then it will create a gedcom which you can export to other places.  You can enter all the names etc individually into tribal pages also, but I don't think you can export from there, so you're best to enter the names into something else first, and then export them to tribal pages.
If you want to use it as your website.
