Hi Annie,
I have a tree on TribalPages. I use the free membership which wont let you download your gedcom but you can upload.
Here's what they say about gedcoms.
Backup and Download Don't lose you data. Make a backup of your site and download it to your computer. You can then restore your site from your backup at any time. This feature is not available to "Free Sites" but is enabled in Standard and Premium upgrades. Backups are GEDCOM (a standard genealogy format) text files which you can import back into TribalPages or any of the several applications that accept GEDCOM files.
The spelling/grammar mistakes are theirs, not mine.
So, if you haven't entered your data in any family tree software you could do it bit by bit on TribalPages and perhaps later upgrade to a paid subscription and download (they seem to call it 'backup') your gedcom from there.
If you intend to pay one day then that would be your best option.
Paul

Also (re TribalPages):
Number of Photos Free sites are limited to 50 pictures. Standard sites can hold up to 250 pictures while Premium sites can store 1000 high resolution pictures. Deluxe sites can have up to 5000 pictures.

One important thing to remember Annie. GedCom files do not contain pictures. All they contain is where the pictures can be found.
This means that if you upload a picture to TribalPages and connect it to a person, when you finally download your gedcom, the picture references wont work any more. This isn't a big thing really. Just remember to keep ALL the pictures you upload somewhere so you can reconnect them up again when you download the gedcom file.
Good luck.

Also, if you're not going to use the pay side of tribal pages, I would put them in another software programme, (all have free trial versions) and export (upload) to tribal pages from there, so that you don't have to enter them all over again if you don't want to pay to download (export) from tribal pages. I use the paf at family search. It's free and easy to use.

Hi Annie,
Regarding your second hitch - the two unrelated men - why not set up two Tribal Pages sites, one for each?
Probably not a good idea if you intend to pay for the GEDGOM download feature, but if you only want the free features then having two sites has the added benefit of doubling the number of photos you can upload.

Hi Annie,
I don't know about anyone else, but it would help me to see the thread you refer to before giving advice. Based on what I can gather fro this thread, Guy's recommendation of an HTML file might be the best solution, and there are free sites (Rootsweb comes to mind) where you can do this.
I have my family tree in PAF and have uploaded it to tribalpages. But, when I wanted to follow a specific family in a "non-tree" way, I wrote up my research in Word and converted it to HTML. This can be found at http://www.rootschat.com/links/03ml/
If you are going to copy text from an existing thread, paste it into a file, and perhaps add some additional info, this really might be the easiest way to proceed.
Regards,
Nick

Annie,
Having looked at the thread you cited I think that a gedcom is probably the wrong solution. It seems to me that you would want to tell stories about these unrelated individuals, and that does not really lend itself to the format of the family tree software/gedcom format.
As I and downside, and others stated, the first step would be to compile all the information into a single - or connected - document/s (Word, or other), and massage it into a pleasing form. Much of the initial compilation could be done by copying from the thread. This is going to be quite a large undertaking, and if you are a "techno duck" it will be a learning experience.
Once you have this done, I am sure rootschatters will help you with the other steps. I am certainly willing to provide advice.
Nick
