The right direction is to check parish registers, starting with the baptism of the most recent known ancestor.
Cherry Hinton parish register transcript has the following Burial William Watson 10 June 1785 by the parish
Baptisms 1 Nov 1772 Mary Watson dau of William and Elizabeth Buried 1 Sept 1782 3 Sep 1775 Sarah Watson, dau of William and Elizabeth 2 Nov 1777 John Watson son of William & Elizabeth
The baptisms of Mary and Sarah have been extracted onto the IGI showing parents William and Elizabeth, so I don't understand why you think Susannah Barton was the mother. The 25 Dec 1770 marriage, whilst about right timewise, to Susannah Barton at Cambridge St Giles gives the parish of residence of them both as Cambridge St Peter, but as the Cherry Hinton mother was Elizabeth this is obviously the wrong marriage
There's no marriage of William and Elizabeth in Cherry Hinton, nor was William baptised there
There was also a James and Elizabeth Watson who baptised children in Cherry Hinton in 1762 and 1765, who may, or may not, be connected to William. James wasn't married or baptised in Cherry Hinton either.
You need to request, on this board, a look up in Boyds Marriage Index for the marriage of William and Elizabeth before 1772. Once you have that you may be able to pin down where William was from, and get Elizabeth's maiden name.
