I am still trying to piece together the early years of Samuel Wallis, son of Thomas Wallis and Elizabeth Grubb, who was baptised at Wroughton on 17/03/1816. I have found a Samuel on the 1841 Census who seems to fit. He was living at Wroughton Tything then, with amongst others, an Elizabeth Wallis. There is no indication on the Census if they are husband and wife. I have found a Samuel Wallis marrying an Elizabeth Buckland at Swindon & c in December 1840, Vol: 8, Page 605.
Is it possible to tell from the Registers if this Samuel is the son of Thomas and Elizabeth? Any information regarding the above marriage would be greatly appreciated.
The marriage you have found in the December quarter of 1840 appears to me to be the one found on the IGI by Joy. October would be in that quarter and Wroughton is in Swindon. The marriage certificate would give the father's name.
Hope this helps Ewan

Thank you for the help, I was hoping that someone could look at the actual parish register for me and let me know the information for Samuel and Elizabeth's marriage. The entry on the IGI does look to be the one I am after. If it is, it opens up a whole new can of worms. The Samuel I am referring to was exiled to Australia in 1849 (See previous post for Wiltshire Court Records), he married here in 1858 and went on to Father 16 children by that marriage. I'm trying to ascertain if he was married in Wiltshire before his conviction, who knows, there could be reli's in England as well as a vast number here.
As a curious little side line, one of Samuels' co-accused was a Stephen Buckland, any relation to Elizabeth I wonder. Hmm!!! Genealogy sure beats Days of our Lives. Any further help on this one would be greatly appreciated.
