Can anyone help me with my Granny and her twin daughters please?
« on: Wednesday 11 June 08 22:10 UTC (UK) »

As it says, the picture is of my granny and her daughters, who are my only aunties and the only one I have of them together...

I'm guessing it was taken about 1940-43 as they were born in 1932.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!!

Tracey

Hi Everyone,

What a very nice picture, where is that cottage I see before me!  It looks like an old one, I was going to make a wild guess, but thought I'd get egg on my face so I didn't!

Brilliant restores, from everyone, the coloured one is lovely but a bit vivid in this light to me.

You are very clever to be able to do this at all!  All of you.

I know that I couldn't do it!

Hi Sparkle,

I was born in 1931, and from my old photos, I would say yours was taken circa 1939/40 but unlikely any later.

Wonder if your Auntie remembers it being taken,

Spring

Hi Spring,

I would agree with that,  because of the fashions!
Wasn't it awful when children had to wear specs like that!

Having said that my friend at school had specs like that in the 40's, so now I wonder.

I seem to remember sleeves like that in the late 30s and early 40s

As one who wore them, ohhhh yes, not a pretty sight those glasses....but it was worth it to be able to see properly.

Oh wow.. I've been away for the weekend and only just got back online. I'm so grateful to all of you for these wonderful restores! I will check with my Auntie on when she thinks it was taken.

As for the glasses I'm sure my Auntie Rena hated them too but she was blind as a bat so it was necessary! Oh gosh I just realised she died 18 years ago..... how time flies!!!

One thing my Auntie did say was that she remembered that the stripes on the dresses were red, so jc21red you are spot on with the colours Smiley

I was guessing on 1940-43 as the twins looked between 8 and 10 to me.

I am 99% sure the picture was taken at Carronbridge, North of Thornhill in Dumfriesshire, but I don't know the name of the cottage. This is where Granny Ireland (Catherine Harley) lived (mother to my Granny (Margaret Bryce Ireland) who is in the picture)

Thank you all so much again. I can't express how wonderful this work is. Thank you!!!
