Hello,

You probably have no alternative but to dig deep (too deep) into your purse and view some more records on Scotlandspeople.

Tracing Scottish ancestors is simply an expensive business. I had the great fortune to be seconded to my employer's Glasgow office for a long spell and could spend hours looking through records for free.

My Walker family lived in Paisley too in the late 1820s / early 1830s, and like your family they moved to Glasgow in the 1840s.

It is annoying when certificates are too expensive to get.   All the best for your search

Hi,

I too have been trying to trace my Gmother's family (Mary McNeil nee Andrew) back to Alexander & Janet. It appears we are related then?

My tree goes back two more generations but stops there

James McNeil
m
Jean Walker

then

James McNeil  (1760 -)
m
Margaret McBride

then

Alexander McNeil (1799 – 1867) born Johnstone, Renfrewshire
m         married 20th July 1822, Abbey, Paisley, Renfrewshire
Janet McDougall (  - 1857)

Do you have any more recent info you can share cousin?

Hi

Our ancestors certainly make it hard work in finding them.  They will pop up when you least expect it ..... they just don't want to be found at the moment.

Good luck in your search.

Hi Aussie Andy

Welcome to Rootschat ...... Genealogy sure is addictive and once in the door it is hard to leave.

You must be on my Ggrandfathers brothers side then .... Cheesy

To share information you must make at least two more posts before using the PM (Personal Message system).     If you post back with another message or two separate posts then we can be in contact.

Morning,

Thanks for the reply. My GGgrandfather was Archibald McNeil who married Mary Andrew, daughter of Capt. Richard Andrew who arrived in NZ on the vessel 'Berrar' in 1873

We must share GGGgrandfather - Alexander (1825-1896)?

Cheers,
Andrew

 Cheesy

G'day again,
I have you now cousin! 'How do you do!' The McNeil clan must be quite prevalent in NZ? I have many old photos of the McNeil connection, handed down to me from my father from his mother, Mary McNeil.

Who was that then? My old man played rep rugby for Auckland and
Barbarians, but not All Blacks.
Pics in the old McNeil album, are packed away somewhere. I will endeavour to find them at Christmas when we return to the East Coast.
Got to go now ...............
Cheers,
Andrew
