Privately Purchased Graves
« on: Friday 21 January 05 11:01 UTC (UK) »

I came across a grave purchased privately when I was searching Fleetwood Cemetery records.

As it was bought by someone in Hull and for the name of the persons I am researching, who came from Hull originally,  how likely is it that I would be able to find who bought it, or would it always remain private?

I have many grave deeds  if you get in touch with the cemetery dept of the local authority they will be able to tell you who perchaced the grave

I can only tell you what has happened to me. I wa trying to find out where my great-grandfather was buried. I contacted the local council and was told that the grave rights were in the name of my father who died 30 years ago.

As I am my fathers only surviving child this has now passed to me.  The fact that it is private means that the plot was purchased, and permission to bury must be obtained from the person who has the rights to that grave.

The local council should know who holds the grave rights, but there records may be years out of date.  I had no problem in finding out but it was a family grave but on the other hand, they didn't know who

I'd try and see how far you can get.

Thank you both,

I was just thinking I would save time and effort
should they not give out the information, I will certainly have a go,
