Yes,John Izett was the fourth child of seven.
I haven't looked into his siblings other than dates of birth as I had a deadline to get the tree finished. It has always been my intention to expand it,so the information about the Queens Guards may be very useful.
Do you know anything about John being in South Africa? My friend knows nothing about this, but her brother mentioned it.
(I think you lot had better have a family reunion Grin)
I'll send you a PM with my email address if you want to keep in contact & I'll be able to tell them about your interest sometime next month.
Have you actually got a tree together - it mught be interesting to compare notes?
Thanks
Barbara

Hi Barbara

Yes. John Izett WYLIE went to South Africa (so the story goes) when very young (12 years old or something). He became an overseer to a diamond mine.

The lack of communication with family back home in Scotland is probably not right either. John remarried after his first wife died and I have been told his children did not like their new step-mother and made life very difficult for her! She gave all Johns things to her siblings when John died (don't know if this is true or not) - I would think any letters received from his family in Scotland would have been destroyed by her also. Sad

Hi Addy
Yes,I did know about the step mother & that the marriage was not approved of by the family and one daughter in particular. What a shame if she did give John's things to her siblings.
Happens all the time though, sadly Sad
