Hello Doric. The nearest that I have to Langley Moor is St Brandon at Brancepeth.

Hello Doric. I have no Schellenbergs in any of the inscriptions that I have. It is not a very common name. The only Schellenberg that I have heard of is Keith Schelenberg who's family ran a business in Middlebrough .

Hello Adam
I have a puzzle as I was led to believe that John Moordaff CAPE was buried in St Thomas, Stanley but looking at your list there are no CAPES mentioned. I was looking for John M and his wife Mary Ellen ( nee GILLILAND). I have looked at your other lists but see no Capes ( though I may have missed them) elsewhere. John Cape was an Alderrman of Durham, I felt sure there would be a gravestone. He died in May 1938. His last known address was Mount Pleasant, Stanley, but as far as I can tell his widow, Mary Ellen, didn't die until 1961 If you don't have him in your database for this cemetery, could you advise which other cemetery I should be looking at? Thank you
Boo

Hello Boo. There are two possibilities for there being no gravestone for John Cape. Firstly, there may have been a gravestone that was deemed unsafe and would have been pushed over by the Council on health and safety grounds. When these gravestone are pushed over on to the top of the grave it means that they are face down and I am afraid the inscription will never be seen again. The other possibility is that he may have been buried at Crook municipal cemetery rather than the graveyard at Stanley. I feel sure that that is where his wife would have been buried. Crook cemetery is vast and I have only done the older parts. So I am afraid the only thing you can do is have a trawl along the gravestones to see if you can find any Capes gravestones.

Hi Adam
and thanks for the explanation of what may have happened. I heard yesterday that there is a funeral/in memoriam card for John M Cape still in existence and I should be able to get the cemetery name from that. Very sad that if the gravestones were deemed unsafe that they could not have at least put them flat , but face up.

Hello Boo. I have found your John M Cape but not his wife. The gravestone is in the overflow part of the graveyard with mostly graves from the late 1940's. I did not do that part because of the dates and the condition of the gravestones. The gravestone for John M Cape has a large tree growing in the grave itself and it is up against the gravestone. It has his name and his wifes name followed by an eulogy to him.
