Hello folks  Smiley

I've been around here for a while and have done some MI look ups but I've not posted a formal offer to do look-ups for KKD parishes MIs before.

Here's the offer  Smiley

Gadget

Please post as individual requests and PM me about them. Thanks  Smiley

Thanks Gadget

Any chance you could look up LANDERS surname for me, they were mostly in Penninghame (Wigtown) but may have also been in Minnigaff.

Also GALLOWAY in Kirkmabreck, Minnigaff and Girthon. Especially any WILLIAM Galloways ( 5 generations of them dotted around!)

Hope i'm not asking for too much.

Thank you so much Gadget.

The Landers are mine, as are the Galloways in Kirkmabreck. I actually have been to the church there and had a wander round, but only found the stone for one of the other brothers.

This is great, thank you so much.

Could I ask you to look up the LANDERS in Kirmabreck also please, in the 1891 census one of the sons missing from the other headstone in Minnigaff had moved there with his family.

Is there any more on the Landers inscription from Minnigaff? I am a bit puzzled as to the place of death of Robert, aged 6. The only Marton Hall i can find is down south in England.  Huh

thanks Kirsty

That is all it has on the Minnigaff one.

Have you checked on the 1841 (freecen or the Dum-Gal historical index site) for the family?

I'll try the other one later but I'm off now for a while.

I had the 1851 census for them and they lived at Barwhirran for years, but having looked up Freecen I found them at "Mertonhall Aglab Hs Knockbrax". Mystery solved.

Thanks

That's good  Cheesy

No Landers in Kirkmabreck  Undecided

These are only monumental inscriptions so if they didn't have a tombstone, they wouldn't be there.

Good on you Gadget Cheesy

It may be worth noting that the Kirkcudbrightshire MI booklets are a fantastic resource (available from the DGFHS) as they even have sketches of the churchyards and numbered stones so that the memorials can be very easily located Smiley
So if you do have ancestors listed its well worth purchasing a copy if you are going exploring Smiley

I have the  Anwoth, Auchencairn, Balmaclellan, Balmaghie, Borgue, Kirkandrews, Senwick, Buittle, Carsphairn, Lochrutton, Parton, Rerrick, Tongland, Twynholm, Kirkchrist (Stell), Urr, Colvend & Dundrennan Abbey ones. Please PM me if I can help.

I just wish the Dumfriesshire MIs were so well recorded!

Sparkle - how strange - you're asking people to PM you for information that I've already offered. Why not do it publically. This is the spirit of Rootschat after all.

I do hope you can contribute on this thread.

Hello Gadget, Thank you for your kind offer. This is one I have had problems with and several rootschatters did help me find the family in Canada and Scotland on another posting. The last sighting for Alexander Neish/McNeish is in 1901 census in Kirkudbright with his wife, Mary Patterson and 3 daughters. By 1911 the wife and girls are in Winnipeg, Canada. I am assuming, then, that Alexander Neish/Mc Neish died in Kirkudbright area from 1901-1911. He was born 23 July 1857 in Tongueland, Thank you kindly for any help you can offer. Pat

Is that Kirkcudbright or Kircudbrightshire, Pat?

When I hear from you, I'll check what I have.
