Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hello Rootschatters! I have been trying to find this 2x great grand Uncle for some time. Briefly, this is what I know: Robert Anderson King was b. abt 1848 in Ladykirk, Berwickshire, Scotland. I have found the family in 1851 where Robert and his siblings are with their parents: Thomas King and Elizabeth (nee: Paulin) King. By 1861 Elizabeth had died, but the rest of the family, including Robert are there in Berwickshire; ditto for 1871. However, in 1881 there is NO sign of Robert....the ONLY Robert I can find is if I do a 3 country search (US, Canada and England) simultaneously on www.familysearch.org and then there is a Robert King who was born in the correct year and in Scotland with Scottish parents. He is living in Boulder, Boulder, Colorado with his wife, Hersa, age 26 who was born in Wisconsin and their daughter, Lena J. King, age 8, who was also born in Wisconsin. If this is my Robert, he would have left Scotland soon after the 1871 census and migrated to Wisconsin where he met and married and fathered their child. This one is a puzzle because Robert did have a cousin who came to America and settled in Utah, although a good 20 years earlier. I am wondering if there is any way I can ascertain WHERE in Scotland this Robert King was born? Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated. Pat

Hi Pat Some bits.... 1870 US census, Wisconsin, Columbia County, Courtland Township. Robert King, 22, male, white, retail merchant, of foreign birth, though marked as "citizen" living as a fellow boarder in the Smith Household O.P. Kellog, age 21, male white, b New York.
then in 16 January 1871, Robert King married Hersa J. Kellog, in Columbia County.
1880 US census, Boulder, Boulder, Colorado Robert King, 32, male, white, express & delivery wagon. b Scotland, as were his parents. Hersa J. King, 26, wife, female, white, keeping house, b WI, Dad OH, Mum NY Lena J. King, daughter, 8, b Wisconsin.
I have not followed this family further as, if your Robert was still at home in Scotland for the 1871 census, this canna be him....could it??
Let us know what you think, or further steps?
Kind regards Valerie
