Several of my great aunts were in an institution at 1 Christchurch road, Birkenhead, in 1901, according to the census, at ages 6, 10 and 12, after their mother died, whereas the boys remained with their father. Does anyone know what institution this would have been?

The description of the enumeration district could give the name of the institution. What are the names of the children?

Thanks, Stan. Sorry, they are Marjory Mary Bertha Sillitoe (age 12), Marjory Mary Sillitoe (age 10) and Mabel Martha Sillitoe (age 6).
There is something written after "head matron" in the first entry that I can't quite make out. As to the enumeration district, perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place.

If you are using Ancestry the dstrict is given at the top of the image of the census page. You are here: Search > Census > UK Census Collection > 1901 England Census > Cheshire > Birkenhead > Birkenhead > District 33Stan

Many thanks to "Tati", Stan and Sandy. It's a good thing there are some people out there smarter than me (perhaps a lot, actually).
I think Stan's second reply was for my benefit, as one who has yet to grasp the significance of these enumeration districts.
Thanks again,
Alan
