I am trying to find out about the marriage of George Carter and Lucy Edith Morton. George was born 26 May 1846 in Halifax, and Lucy Edith born around 1857 in Salford. The only marriage i can find between George and any Lucy Edith is in the 4q 1887 in Salford. I have a possible death certificate for George Carter for 26 March 1915 at 56 woolshops, halifax, he was 68 and a tool dealer. the informant was his widow Lucy Edith Carter, but it isn't necessarily the right one. Is there any check I can do before applying for the certificate. any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks Yorkshire Lad
which will show you that George Carter did marry Lucy E Morton in Salford.
If you know George's father's name, you can use that as a reference check, but using reference checks can sometimes make the GRO rule out a certificate which is actually the right one. Eg. if you say the father's name must be John William Carter, and the certificate just says William Carter, it won't be sent - but it still might be the right certificate.
Added Another check you can make, of course, since you know when and where George's wife was born, is to check the birth index for Lucy Edith Morton.
