i am totally stuck with this one. In 1901 census, Alice Burns was 21, work8ing as a woollen winder and listed as living with the rest of her family, in Blacker Road, Huddersfield. Her father was called Thomas Burns and mother called Elizabeth Burns. It states Alice is their daughter. However, there is only one Alice Burns born in the Huddersfield area of around 1880. I applied for her birth certificate, but it came back as her parents being John and Mary Burns. There is no mention of her in the 1881 or 1891 census. If she was visiting, lodging or a relative wouldn't it say so ?. I am stuck. Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks, Yorkshire Lad
if you look at that 1901 family you have in 1881, then there is a 4-month Emily, not Alice. (and a brother-in-law Holland from market weighton). RG11; Piece: 4382; Folio: 78; Page: 19
Whoops, emily is there in 1901 too.
Must make alice a bit older then, maybe 1879.

Unless the 'single' entry is erroneous and she is what we'd call a dau-in-law?
