Hi Stephen,

I am related to this Bell family, through Robert Bell born 1816. I knew his father was John, a Joiner, but I wasn't sure of the Wealands link. I am interested to find out that John Bell was a native of Ponteland. Have you got any more scans of the original Parish Record images or any other information you can share?

I actually have a photograph of Robert Bell, from an old family album, although I haven't scanned it as yet.

Cheers. Joe.

We are describing the situation in the Church of England.  However due to the dominance of that church of the whole of life not many baptisms took place in other churches around 1800.  Particularly in the villages it was necessary to establishment the settlement of a family and baptism in the parish church was a major factor in achieving this.
