Hello Boo. Here is the inscription. I think I have got it word for word.
The tree made it a bit difficult:-
In loving memory of John M Cape, beloved husband of Mary E Cape, who died May/25/1938 aged 61 years.
Though not idle in the higher sphere thy spirit bends itself to loving task,
And strength enough to perfect what it dreamed of here is all the crown and glory asks.
This stone is dedicated on behalf of the Spennymoor divisional labour party in honour of his great service for the people of whom he loved.
Sorry no sign of Mary:(

I really don't know how to thank you, but I am really grateful for all this effort you go to.
The transcription is wonderful, so nice to have and really good to know that his work was appreciated by those he served on councils and committees.
Mary Ellen was one of many Gillilands in the area, so far I have only found her brother and his wife who also died in the 1950s. They were cremated at Durham Crematorium, so I will set to and work my way through the Book of Remembrance, page by page to see if I can find any others.
I may be some time ... :-)

Me again I am afraid
Blushing slightly cos I am totally geographically challenged !
I have been looking on Google Maps to see if I could locate St Thomas Church and I got a bit lost. I found a website but that seemed to have everything on it apart from an address.
Is it the church that seems to be on the B6299 road going towards Sunniside where it is joined by a road called Wolsingham Road ? If it is I can see why they don't bother with an address, if you know where to find it then you really couldn't miss it round there!
Oh and is the Windsor Terrace Cemetery actually 'in' Crook or, like the St Thomas one, is it way outside the town?

Hello Boo. Yes your are correct with Stanley church. It is on the side of the road so you will not miss it.
The Windsor road cemetery is on the outskirts of Crook and that is easy to find.
If you are going to visit just ask anyone for directions when you are Crook.
Once again it is not a place that you can miss because it is also on the side of the road and as I said before it a very large cemetery.

Hello Sarah. Here they are.
War Grave:- 506762 Sergeant W Moralee, Royal Air Force, 6/October/1944 aged 36 years.
In loving memory of William Moralee of Billy Row Inn, who died December/24/1945 aged 79 years.
Also Mary Isabell, his wife, who died January/7/1948 aged 77 years.
There is another and once again I will send it via the personal mail.

Hello Jeffery. Here are the inscriptions for Parkin:-
This first on is part of a gravestone that was damaged and I could not find the other part.
Aged 61 years.
Also the above Joseph Parkin, who died April/18/1916 aged 73 years.
In loving memory of Robert, dearly beloved husband of Matilda R Parkin of Jobson Terrace, Stanley, who died February/28/1932 aged 59 years.
In loving memory of Hannah, beloved wife of William Parkin, died June/22/1947 age 69 years.
And the above William Parkin, who died May? sent personal message.
In loving memory of Edward, dearly beloved husband of Florence Parkin, died 17/June/1950 aged 49 years.

Just registered and I have the medal for Edwin Gibson, It has been in our family as long as I remember and I came from Billy Row which is the next village to Stanley and always attended St Thomas Church
