COMPLETED: 1861 Census Lookup~Joseph Betteley
« on: Tuesday 17 June 08 11:54 BST (UK) »

Hi

Would anyone be able to find for me please Joseph Betteley on the 1861 Census? He died in 1866.  On the 1851 census he was a retired ironmonger/widower living at Oakfield in the township of Stapeley in the parish of Wybunbury, Cheshire.  Joseph was born in 1791.

Many thanks

Hi alli/DS

Thank's ever so much for all this info. Grin Grin I really appreciate the time you have both spent looking for me.  I had looked on Ancestry (library version) too but just couldn't find him there.  Thought I was doing something wrong.

Joseph Betteley married Ann Harrison at Wybunbury in 1820.  Her father is the chap who we think built Oakfield House in the late 1790s.  All the evidence I have seems to suggest that both families were of humble origins who'd made there fortune through forging/ironmongering.

Very many thanks
