Hi I'm seeking a death for Harriet Eliza BAYLEY, b 1848, UK. Spouse was John Henry. I've been led to believe she died circa 1913 in Victoria.
AND May I also ask for a lookup for her mother, Lavinia BROWN. No details on her, but its not a usual name.
Thanks in advance. Grub

Hi Grub.
Harriet Eliza BAYLEY died aged 13 in Ardale in 1913. Ref = 39 Parents = Sam Brown & Lavinia FUDDY
But this does not look like the one you are wanting.
For a death of Lavinia Brown, it is surprising how many there were. However, a Lavinia Brown, parents unknown, aged 71, died in Chewton in 1903, ref = 1114. Whether this is her is debatable of course.

Hi folks
Dee that age at death (13) looks doubtful - if this was a married woman? Given both parent surnames are different to the death name - most likely she was married. The age could be a transcription error

Hi
I think it's a transcription error as well.
1903 & 1909 Victorian Electoral Rolls have her living with her husband at 55 & 53 Denbigh Rd, Armadale John Henry's occupation is Draper. Note: 1903 also as Amy Beatrice BAYLEY living with them at 55 Denbigh Rd.
Regards
Genni

Thank you. She was definitely in Armadale, and her husband was John Bayley, draper. Amy Beatrice was on of their children, and I am familiar with the Denbigh Street address.
The below information was found on the Internet, and I wanted to confirm it before ordering a DC
DEATH: Death Certificate. Vict. Reg. No. 39, Age 63 in 1913 (Vict.BDM CD), estimating birth to be 1850. which is close to what you've given me, apart from the 13/63 age.
I have her birth certificate for 1848 in Camberwell, and her parents were Samuel Brown and Lavinia Huddy.
With this reference number, year of death and parental names, I should still be able to order a cert......right??
As for Lavinia, her husband was Samuel Brown. She was "of age" when she and Sam married in 1838, but I've not been able to find them on 1841 or 1851 census. Her father was named as George Huddy.
So, 1838, minus 21...born ~ 1817 or so...hmmmm
Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Grub
With that number you can download a certificate an image - this very minute $AU17.50 - as you have the number - no need to pay for the search
Trish
Edit: Sorry - should have given the link - http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/home - Select "Purchase and download an image" - if you want a certified certificate - same information - you can order a certificate online

Given that the informant for Harriet, knew her maiden name, if her mother died in 1903, unless they were estranged, I would assume the informant would have been Harriet and some information on parents would have been given. This is why I would be doubtful of the 1903 death.

Hello there Grub
I had him down in my tree as Henry John Bayley?? I am wondering is she is buried with John Henry who lived a long life and died in 1931 at Armadale.
Would he be buried at St. Kilda??
you may have seen this birth in Victoria
Laura Brown born Prah in 1854 reg no 2096 father Samuel Brown and mother Lavinia Huddy
so it would appear the family were in Australia by then
This death in 1923 in Victoria at Brighton Louisa Jane Austin died aged 84 reg no 4467 father Samuel Brown mother Lavinia Huddy
regards Jenn

Thanks!!
I'll go ahead and order the 1913 cert with the info we have.
Jenn, his death certificate does say Henry John, but his birth cert defo says John Henry, and he is buried at St. Kilda, (died in Armadale.)
I appreciate the other births to Sam and Lavinia. Searching for Brown on Victoria passenger lists is an uphill battle, but at least now I can narrow down their arrival date.

Hello there Grub
I onder if the Browns may have gone to other state first, but I haven't found any births to them in Tasmania or South Australia.
I wondr where Louisa Jane Brown was born. On the index's when she married Andrew Austin it says she was from Croydon! I quess her marriage certificate or death certificate should say where she was born which by the death date is 1838c. On would think there should be more more children between 1838 and 1854
Will keep looking though.

Hi Jenn
Free BMD has a Louisa Jane BROWN, b December Q of 1839, Croydon, Greater London, Kent.
With Harriet being born in 1848, they must have been SOMEWHERE in 1841, but are eluding me. As you say, there were probably a couple of young ones born between 1839 and 1848.....and then 1854.
Harriets death certificate states she was in Victoria for 62 years (1851)...no other state mentioned.
Not the first time I've misplaced a rellie or two but I'll continue the hunt.
Thanks for the help.

Hello Grub
I guess if you purchased and downloaded the birth certificate for LAURA BROWN it should say the names of the previous issue.
I have had a good search of the index's and I cannot come up with the deaths of any other children to the couple in Victoria using their parents names nor can I find Lavinia by using her parents names.
I wonder what Samuel Brown's occupation was. I guess it is possible they only stayed in Victoria for small time frame and then moved onwards.
regards Jenn

Thanks, Jenn....Sam was a gardener, on both Harriets marriage and death certificates.
Magoo......it seems you have found him. St. Kilda is where other family is buried, etc. Thank you very much.
