Looking him up I find he is the Baron of Evesham. Looking now the line after Baron could be:

<?> Evesham

He died in 1727 which would be MDCCXXVII

looks like Juno on line above year and 18 might be duodeviginti. Could duodeviginti end in o

Hi Gang
I haven't got much and what I do have I'm not sure of

Duc         Amora         Patria

N                                                       iu  ay
e   a     Brooke AM

       Lax              to

       MDCCXXX111
         pri     x   nium
bo         Honi            D                             o
Nicholas Lechmere Baronet

mu        imi  rear         jus Ne       e
              ildrr

It doesn't make sense all these stray letters - I can clearly see 'j's' but there were no j's I don't think, unless it's not all in latin?

Hi GG
My brother Bob (LBobble on here) and I were following the Graveyard Gang main thread with excitement and great interest. It seemed the most creative and innovative development in the Restoration site in recent times. So I was sad to see it locked on Wednesday - just as I was getting ready to post up a couple of sarcophagi (is that the correct plural???)) of our ancestors  one of which is a bit of a challenge.
Can I ask if this thread is a replacement and if I may post them here?
David
ps that's another way of asking if I can join the gang?Huh

I still  want to know who changed the title and why.

The next post answers that and SHOUTED AT US TOO!

As so scalled TL consider the graveyard project abandoned.

It could have worked, we seem to have uused the wrong approach.

This thread is not a replacement, simply a new request for help.

If anybody needs help deciphering, be it a will, a gravestone, a plaque or a certificate, then

Just post a new topic on the appropriate board, asking for help.

There is no need to ask whether you can "join in", if you are a member of RootsChat, you are already "in"  Smiley

Accepted Bob, pity Pru didnt advise us before the so called negotiations were set up.

It was never the intention of ganging up, we were marking time for an answer from Pru to set up a proper place for tombstone research.

I do of course course accept your advice.

I will take no further part in this project, I cannot speak for the others.

Oh dear Berlin-Bob - so sorry. I should have made it much more obvious that I had my tongue well and truly in my cheek! I am very happy with the forum's protocols and was merely having a bit of fun with the word 'gang'.

Sorry Mike, I modified the topic title and was then called away (I was at work) and wasn't able to get back online till tonight  Undecided  My apologies.
Not sure what you mean about "didn't advise you before the negotiations were set up"  Huh  I've been in constant contact with RabbitB about the gravestone/inscription deciphering project and how best to set it up as a "regular feature".

I don't have an answer for you yet about how we are going to set it up (waiting for Admin, i.e. Trystan, to give us his opinion) so am of course happy for you to all continue helping out as you are doing.  The only thing I would stress is that we really don't want to make it seem like an exclusive club.  Using the term "gang" does give that impression to some people so I would ask that future threads are titled using the normal 'protocols", i.e. "help deciphering inscription" or some such.

Pru

I see the prolific posts of the Yellow Tail Gang are off topic, maybe we should have been told to post there untill something proper could be agreed. Thus the temporary title gang might not have gone against RC rules.

I apologise if my comment seemed a slight on your input, which has at all times been very helpfull.

Hi Bob,

I think that I must hold up my hands and get them slapped for everything, blame me please, it is all my fault!

I would never never presume to put my foot in it on purpose!  We never intended to try and be anything other than a Team!

Our Moderator has been kept fully informed of our doings and I would like to think that you will see what we have been trying to do here

Please accept my apologies for the silly song!  It was very childish.

I had already apologised to Prue that we were off topic because we needed to practice our skills on these stones, it is a serious topic and a little light conversation helps us along

Thank you for having told me that you disapprove.  I welcome any suggestions especially yours.

Forget the waffle, let's get on with what we are good at, deciphering gravestones/plaques etc.
