Steel and Pettigrew of Paisley
« on: Thursday 19 June 08 18:57 BST (UK) »

Looking for info about my great-grandmother (Jessie Pettigrew 1854 to 1920) - re her second marriage to William Steel.  William born in Johnston area of Scotland in 1852.  William had 5 children I think - Walter, Isa, Jeanie, Bessie and Andrew.
William and Jessie married in 1897 in Paisley, Scotland.  Thanks.

Have you tried searching Scotlands People on the 1901 census?

This looks to be their 1901 census entry, children all show a Paisley birth place:

Jessie Steel    17
Robert Steel    15
Isa Steel    15
Andrew Steel    13
Jeanie Steel    11
Bessie Steel    9

Address: 3 Stirling St, Paisley

Yes thanks, that's the family.  I now need to try and trace where they went to after 1901.  That's an interesting comment about the Channel Islands - didn't know that!
