Looking for ancestors

US census lookup please

I am trying to find what became of Gideon Palmer, who was born in Johnstone, Dumfriesshire Scotland in 1848.  I can find no trace of him in the Uk after 1876, when he was the informant on his mother's death cert.  I know there are several Gideon Palmers about in the USA and hope one of them may be the right one.

Also his brother, William Palmer, who was born in Ireland in 1855. In 1891 he was in Scotland, then there is no trace.

would be grateful if anyone could look up the US census for me, regarding these two.

To help narrow things down, is your Gideon the one on the 1871 census with mother Elizabeth and two children, Gideon 4 and jane 2? Are they his children and do you know what happened to them?
