I Know,If I Get to the Core then Answers R There!

HiYall
This one is a bit of a mystery - Albert Elsey Carver (possibly known as Bertie) born 1864 Nottingham, left Liverpool as a single man on the SS Scythia bound for New York Sept 18th 1890, family rumour has it that he went looking for Gold in California. Can someone check census US records please?
All help gratefully appreciated!

Did he have any family in the US? There's an Albert E. Carver in Fresno, California in 1900, who is listed as brother-in-law of Fred Ervine, who was married to Minnie born Sept. 1863. The dates are a bit off (Albert is listed as born Feb. 1868 and his immigration date was listed as 1893), but thought it might be worth checking. You can take a peak at it yourself at http://labs.familysearch.org/
I found an interesting ad listed in 3 Hawaiian newspapers in 1900 and 1901 - They say "NOTICE - If Albert Elsey Carver, who was residing in or near Vancouver, British Columbia during the years 1891 to 1895 and afterwards in California, and was last heard of in Sonora, Calaveras county, in California about June, 1896, will apply to the undersigned, he will hear something to his advantage. WELLS & HIND, Solicitors Nottingham, England"

I dont think he had any family out there but the Notice in the Newspaper is for the correct person  - his father died and left him a rather large inheritance and family had 12 months to find him before it was donated to Nottingham Hospital.
Do you have the 'image' of the newspaper or is it transcribed? I you do have the image, I would be very grateful to receive it!

Fom what I gather - His father James Carver was a leading lace Manufacturer and Machine Holder in Nottingham. He had 2 sons, one of them being Albert Elsey Carver (his middle name is his mother's maiden name, her father was also a well-off manufacturer) At the time of his father's death the Will instructed the solicitors to try and find Albert by whatever means to inform him of his inheritence, if they could not find him within 1 year, then his money would go to the Nottingham General Hospital. Other family members thought he might have been in Canada or the US and as far as i know, notices were posted in major newspapers in each state. So I guess they were clutching at straws

Albert E Carver 32 (Feb 1868) Birthplace: England Brother-in-law to Head of House Transciribed Immigration Year says 1873 and it looks like that too BUT says in the U.S. 7 years which would be 1893 Occupation: Asst. Cashier at a Bank
Head of House Fred Ervine 35 (Sep 1868) b. England Parents; Eng Occ: Bookkeeper
Head's Wife Minnie Ervine 31 (Feb 1868) b. England Parents: Eng
Fred & Minnie married 7 years no children ; Imm 1873 for both BUT again it says in U.S. for 7 years ??
What do you know of his siblings??

After your kind help and a look up in the English census 1881 & 1871 I dont think that this is My Albert in 1900.
There is a Minnie Carver born Liverpool and her father is Edwin Carver, an accountant ~ she has a brother a year younger ALFRED E Carver which I think may have been mistranscribed as Albert. I think the marriage in Toxteth is hers and then they emigrated.
In answer to your question Shelly - Yes he did come back but then left again rumoured to have settled in Paraguay - another rumour  - all help appreciated
