Hi,

I am trying to trace my x3 and x4 great grandads back to Ireland.

This is what I know:
Patrick Burke was married in 1859 to Mary Nowlan. He is 27 years old. He is cited as a widower so his oldest two children are probably not Marys but from a previous marriage. He is living at 5 Walton Street, Birkenhead and is a Journeyman plasterer. His father is James Burke.
1861 Census RG 9/2643 Patrick is 28 and is a plasterer from Ireland. He Lives in Birkenhead at Walton Street. He has 2 children at this time.
1871 Census RG 10/3940 he is 38 years old and was born in Meath Ireland  and is a plasterer. He is living at 15 Shipgates, Exchange, Bolton. This is with in the parish of St Peter.

Just to confirm I am looking to trace any further information about Patrick Burke Born abt:1833 in Meath and his Father James birth date unkown.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Civil registration of births in Ireland began 1864 so there will be no birth certificate for Patrick Burke.
If Patrick's first marriage took place in Ireland you need to know his religion as civil registration of Catholic marriages only started in 1864 (too late for Patrick) but other marriages from 1845.
To search for church records (baptisms, etc.)- if they exist- you need to know the family's religion and where they lived (civil parish if not the actual townland not just the county).

thank you for the reply.

Any Ideas on working out Patrick/Jamess specific town will be appreciated as I have no idea how to work this out. I only have the census that states Meath!
As for religion the certs I have indicate their religion was Catholic.
Is there any records that might show their movements from Ireland to England which may give me a clue?

Regards

Records were (and still aren't) kept of people travelling from Ireland to Scotland/England Wales because all were part of U.K.

Finding the place a family lived in Ireland is often the brick wall for most people.
