« on: Saturday 21 June 08 09:55 BST (UK) »

Does anyone have any info on Reverend George Whitson? He was minister at Cathedral Kirk of Brechin from 1804 –1835. An Image of him would be great and I am interested in data on his descendants. Any help appreciated

His will is possibly on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - cost £5.00  to download.

Whitson George 03/06/1837 Revd, one of the ministers of parish of Brechin, residing at Parkhill, county of Perth   Perth Sheriff Court SC49

This may be your man?

That certainly would look to be him Steve  Smiley

From http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~whitson/scottish_whitson.htm

WHITSUN of Parkhill:
Alexander WHITSON Esq. of Parkhill, Perthshire succeded his uncle, the Rev.
George WHITSON, minister of the 2nd charge of Brechin, who succeeded as heir
to the estates. The patronymic of WHITSON or WHITSUN appears to be derived
from the barony of WHITSUN in Berwickshire ...

Did George marry Mary Molison (29 AUG 1806 Brechin)? I can't easily see children showing to them on the OPRs unfortunately. Hopefully the will found by Steve will reveal all  Wink

Thanks Monica & Steve, I have already seen that and the info on Scotland people web site. I am a regular user of the Scotland People web site and have seen his will and his wifes, yes she was Mary Molison (cm 29 Aug 1806).  I am hoping to find some sort of written biography or article about him. And who knows maybe there is a portrait. There are descendants, one Angus Whitson who runs a web site www.manwithtwodogs.com is a descendant, I have tried to contact him but no response. Seems that the rev George Whitson conducted the marriages of many of the Whitson's so I have managed to find his signature on a few marriage certs. I thought also that someone may have burial records for Brechin and can check if there are any Whitson's listed.
