Looking for informaton on a school owned and run by Ann Maria Jones in or around London between 1847 & 1875.  Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Smiley

Hello Karen,

Welcome to Rootschat.

Can you tell us a bit more about Ann and her school? London is a very big place.

What is the Wright connection?

Do you have any idea when AMJ was born?

Hi JustinL

OK....Ann Maria Jones nee Allchin born 25/04/1821 Bethnal Green.  Married John Matthias Jones 26/04/1845.  2 children - Ann Maria Jones born 1846 Islington and Christopher Thomas Jones born 1847 Islington.  John Matthias deserted his wife and children in 1847 and Ann Maria moved back in with her father, Christopher Allchin a "Victualler".  According to a newspaper report in 1867 John Matthias Jones made claim on money received by Ann Maria from her father's estate.  In the report it stated that Ann Maria had supported herself and her 2 children by opening a school.   Daughter Ann Maria Jones married a Charles Wright.  I am looking to see if Christopher Thomas Jones attended his mother's school as all census data lists only Ann Maria and her daughter.  There is only the 1861 census listing Christopher living with his father as a boarder.

I hope this is not too confusing!!  Tongue

Regards
Karen

She might have been running a 'dame school'?

Incidentally, where is she in 1861? I can see her daughter living with grandparents Christopher Allchin and Sarah, but not her.
