Kings Lynn Baptisms

Hi,

Can anybody help me find a baptism for David Cowan born 9/9/1870 in Kings Lynn.

His mother was Elizabeth Cowan , maiden name Trail, but there is no fathers name on the birth certificate, indicating that he was illegitimate.

I'm hoping that a christening may name the father  Huh

The 1871 shows Elizabeth (b Fife) as a widow with 2 other children

There is a death in Kings Lynn in 1867 for a William Cowan and one of her children is William

If any baptismal record does exist - I very much doubt it will show a fathers name

You may already have this IGI entry

Elizabeth 7 b Suffolk Eyre
William C F b Kings Lynn
David 7 months b Kings Lynn

In 1876 - Elizabeth married William Wilkin Johnson but the 1881 shows a 7 year old daughter Malinda?? Cowan

If I had to hazard a guess - I would say that William Johnson was father to both David and Malinda - what was the birth address on David's birth cert?

Hi Carole,

You have the right family there, except Elizabeth's father was David Trail.

I am pretty certain that David's father was William Johnson as Elizabeth went on to marry him in 1876. I was just hoping that a baptism might confirm this.

Elizabeth had three children after her husband William died, all of them illegitimate and I suspect that William Johnson fathered at least two of them.
