Hi there,
I am having trouble finding info of my gg grandfather's parents, I cannot find his death notes or even his birth notes. I know for certain he was born about 1817 in Cranston and that he died in Fife, possibly Markinch or Kennoway. He was married to Susan Somerville. Any help would be great.
Thanks
Scotty

Hi Scotty
Have you checked wife Susan's death cert (looks to have died in 1897 in Markinch) to see whether husband James still shows as alive or deceased? He was alive in 1891 at the time of census. Would help you narrow down the time frame for his death.
There is a death showing in 1898 in Markinch for a James Henderson, born 1815. Have you looked at this death cert. to see whether it is him?

There is a christening showing on IGI for a James Henderson in Cranston:
JAMES HENDERSON Christened on 12 JUL 1818 in Crichton, Midlothian Parents: JAMES HENDERSON and AGNES GILCHRIST
Maybe a possibility?

That's a pity Hume, it was the most obvious one. Maybe if Scotty checks wife Susan's death cert. we can get a better idea.

Thanks for your replies, Susan's death lines say she was married to James but does not say she was his widow. The 1898 is the wrong James. The 1818 baptism is a possibility though, the census says birth at Cranston that could be a transciption mistake. The families were all from this area so Crichton could be right. My g grandfather James was born at Heriot and Falahill and Temple are all birth places of his children. There are no children called Agnes though which would be unusual in |Scotland.
