I find it easier to undertand when I draw it up on paper into a rough tree with names, dates & places of birth etc. It helps to see it all in front of you, and you can see what makes sense, what doesn't, where the gaps are etc.
It can do you head in .
Be brave. And good luck!
PS> Remember, you will need to verify these facts, (or almost all of them) via certificates where posssible - as it can be easy to get off track.

Hi again BM, I've been fishing around for your Griffiths in the census too . I think you already have some of this but will post it anyway:

No wonder I couldn't find them (note surname):
1881 5 Mill Cottages Mill Road Woodchurch RG11/3569/119/22 Henry Ollive head mar 65 bootmaker b Woodchurch Ellen wife 65 Cheshire Prenton Emily Ollive (?) daur mar 20 b Prenton Charles Smith visitor mar 20 general labourer Bebington William visitor 7 months Bebington
1881 Sloreon (?) Road higher Bebington RG11/3570/78/9 John Griffiths head wid 45 candle maker b Cheshire Thurstaton Mary J Griffiths daur unmar 17 Higher Bebington
found 'em (and some more kids ) Transcribed as Olliver, but image says Ollive 1861 looks like Queens Arms Hotell [sic] Woodchurch/Oxton Henry Ollive head mar 44 cordwainer master Ellen wife Samuel son 16 blacksmiths apprentice William son 15 gardeners app John son 12 scholar Elizabeth dur 10 Mary A daur 8 Jessie daur 3 (all b Woodchurch except William which says he's b Birkenhead)
Note: Henry's age differs - probably 1871 census is wrong - I will check image again .... yes, I wrote Henry and Ellens ages as 36 and 37 in the 1871 census - (they are transcribed as that too), but image looks like it may be 56 and 57 which makes sense.

Ummm, I wonder ....
1841 Prenton HO107/127/4/26
Thomas Burkey 65 ag lab Margaret 60 Ellen Cartwright 20 Margaret Cartwright 15 Elizabeth Cartwright 3 Henry Ollive 20 shoe m (all born in county)
So Henry is living with an Ellen in 1841 . I wonder if that is THE Ellen who Henry marries ....
Just had a look on freebmd for a possible marriage between 1841 and 1851 - no Ellen Cartwright marriage to a Henry Ollive on freebmd .... can't find a marriage for Henry Ollive to any Ellen ....

There are 2 submitted records on the IGI.
One gives a birth year of 1815 which sounds like a guess, the other gives a christening date of 19 Jan 1816 in Birkenhead for Henry Ollive. Father is Samuel and mother is Elizabeth Holt. Henry names (what looks like his eldest) son Samuel so this looks promising.
Will need verification of course .

have found some siblings for Henry Ollive b 1816 with same parents chr in Birkenhead. Records also submitted so may not be accurate, however they have given precise dates of christening so may be correct. Thomas 5 Nov 1818 Ebeneezer 18 Nov 1821 Edwin 7 Jan 1825 William 30 Jan 1827 [Note: Though pretty sure Henry Ollive corwainer/bootmaker is yours, these IGI records will need checking to see if they are the correct Ollive family.]

Um, there is an Ebenezer Olive around about Sussex in a couple of the censuses, so I'm not convinced that Samuel and Elizabeth Holt are your Henry's parents - perhaps there are a couple of Ollive families, one in Sussex and one in Cheshire, and someone has assumed they are one and the same.
Think I should reign it in a bit here ....

To get back to the facts:
To find Jessie's mother's name you will need her birth certificate which you can buy for £7 online here: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
using these details: Births Sept 1858 Ollive Jessie district: Wirral volume: 8s page: 343

You are a star.
Thank you.
I spent last night trying to get my records in order and just found out how much more there is to do!!!!
Very excited by it all though.
Husband reckons we need to find you and take you out for dinner for all this!

Hi Jenn
I just wanted to share with you yet another really spooky coincidence....
My husband's cousin is getting married in Brisbane in August which is why we are coming over for the grand family reunion, both his family and mine. The bride was born in Rockhampton (where my mother was born) and some of the cousins live in Gladstone which is another link.
In the process of organising hotels etc, we have just discovered that the wedding is to be held in Mount Coot-tha botanical gardens. This grave where my great-grandparents are buried, is just yards away by the looks of it ........you know where I will be if it all gets a bit boring in the wedding!

Cootha (as most tourists do) past the gardens which are very large and the Toowong cemetery covers a lot of acres so I would think you would miss an awfull lot of the reception if you start wandering
