I'm looking for information about a William Lawrence of Michelmersh who married Jane Gaiger in Kings Somborne in 1824. It appears she remarried a Wm. Whitlock in Lockerly in 1843 and she is shown in 1851 census w/Wm Whitlock and son James Lawrence age 14, born Michelmersh. I don't have access to 1841 census which might show her a widow or with William Lawrence. Any information about William Lawrence born approx. 1790s with his birth family and the children of his marriage would be appreciated. Thank you.

I was looking for James but couldn't find a match either so I suspect it may a transcription error.....  I'll keep looking

I did find a Jane Lawrence in Michelmersh in 1841 but the writing is so difficult to decipher...
HO107/400/12/11/16
Mitchelmersh Hamlet, Mitchelmersh
All born in county.
Jane Lawrence age 40
Charloto (sp?) age 14...possibly Charlotte 
Henry age 9
Alfred age 6
George age 4
James age 2
Sorry that's the closest I could find

George and Jane may have been in Romsey on the 1851 census - George possibly in the union workhouse - idiot from birth - a possible for Jane was lodging in Romsey. Arthur is likely to be Alfred on the 1851 census in Lockerley the next household to the Whitlocks. Henry may have been married and living in Mottisfont but his age was given as 24.
Probable death registration for William (the only possible registered in Romsey registration district).

Thank you both very much. I didn't have all the children and their baptism dates. I've been assuming that Jane married Wm. Whitlock in 1843. In that case she would be Lockerly, Hants during the 1851 census with son, James. Valda--did you find a baptism for Wm. Lawrence, the father, in the 1790s in Michelmersh? I've been wondering about his family and the possible connection to Lawrences in Romsey in the 1760s.

Sorry to be so slow, but I just realized that Michelmersh baptisms were indexed on the internet at genuki.org.uk... What I don't see is any parents' names on the index. Does anyone on this board have access to the parish records (or transcripts) that would show the parents of the children baptised? I'm looking specifically for:

Thank you so much. The entry for "P dau" 10 Jun 1797 could be Phoebe. Another researcher suggested that, but I don't find a burial for the first Phebe. I appreciate the clarification on the George entries. Thank you for your time and sharing your resources. --Leslie

One more idea of how to check on name of last daughter? born in 1797. There are 2 Lawrence brides listed in Michelmersh about the right time for Rebecca and P?

The transcript has a Robert baptised on 18 Jun 1797, not P... and no other Lawrence etc in 1797. Given that the transcript on Genuki has the date as 10th, it's possible that the writing may be poor, so best to check the original if possible.
Rebecca Larrence married William Collence 15 Oct 1820
Harriet Lawrence married John Alexander 15 Oct 1816.
Phebe, daughter of George was buried 17 Sep 1807.

Thank you Nell. I didn't realize that there were multiple transcripts out there. There appear to be some gaps in the genuki one and there are probably near illegible entries in the original. I will try and check the microfilm of the original parish register. It took 3.5 months for the last microfilm order I placed so I was looking for a quicker answer to my question. I should know by now...patience, patience when it comes to genealogy!
