The HALS website now also has a very helpful resource: Hertfordshire Names Online, which includes the Allen Index of pre 1837 Hertfordshire Marriages as well as many other useful resources.  My only criticism is that they haven't littered their main website with links into it - it can be quite difficult to find your way in if you don't know it's there!
