Catherine Stewart Barrie/John Findlay
« on: Tuesday 24 June 08 05:45 UTC (UK) »

Catherine Stewart Barrie and John Findlay married on 16/11/1849 in Dundee, Scotland.
I can find no more about John Findlay than this but I know she was a widow by 1851.
Could someone find out about John and his birth/death and family??
Catherine married a John Malcolm and came to Australia and i have the rest of the Aust history if it helps anyone.
Thanks,Carolyn

Hi cjs!

I don't have the answer I'm afraid, although I'm on my way home shortly so I'll take a look if nobody else has found them yet!  I'm just watching with interest as recently several connections are cropping up recently which include my family tree names, albeit different branches, and I'm sure they connect somewhere that I don't yet know of!  I have Findlays and Barrie's in my tree and recent information has suggested that these are connected, together with a Duthie-Findlay link.

Hi Carolyn!

I don't know if you've got anywhere with this, I was having a look around my Barrie's and thought of you!

I see an LDS submitted record for the marriage of John Finlay and Catherine Stewart on 16th November 1849 as I believe you already have.  Has this been verified?  Also, what other information do you have on Catherine that might help, for example, if her marriage is indeed recorded as Stewart, where did the Barrie come from?  Do you have a year of birth and place of birth I can make use of? If you can share all the info you have on these two, it would help immensely.  Thanks!!!

Dear Lass,
I have the original cert for John Findlay and Catherine Stewart Barrie wedding on 16/11/1849.She was born 11/1/1828 in Scone<Perthshireshire,Scotland and died in Bega<NSW<Aust in1895. John Findlay must have died young as she is a widow abt 1851/2. Death of John Findlay in Huh??
She married again to a John Malcolm?Huh? and came to Aust in Huh? with her daughter Agnes Findlay who married William Rixon in 1868.They were my G.Grandparents and I have all their history down to me.

Catherine's parents were Alexander Barrie and Agnes Kilgour.
Alexander's parents were Charles Barrie and Barbara Stratton.
Agnes's parents were Alexander Kilgour/KIlgower and Katherine Stewart.

Barbara's parents were Thomas L. Stratton and Emilia Grigor.
Charles's parents were Charles Barrie and Mary Alison.

I dont have any more details and would like to know the Scottish details as I don't know how to look it up in Scotland.
Can you help on the Scottish side as I can help on the Australian side details.
I also have a photo of Agnes Rixon(Nee Findlay)
If we are on the same tree please keep in touch.

Hi Carolyn

I can't find any information on the John Findlay/Catherine Stewart Barrie marriage/connection at all  Huh

I have the John Malcolm and Catherine marriage on 11/6/1852 Dundee, Angus.  Agnes would appear to have been the daughter of John Malcolm and Catherine Stewart Barrie - the extract birth on IGI has her as Agnes Finlay Malcom born 7/11/1850.  There is also the birth of a sister named Janet Malcolm born 14/3/1853 Dundee, Angus.

Are we sure that the Catherine who married John Findlay is 'ours'?
