Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

I have been researching family history for a couple of years primarily on ancestry.com. My mother's family was from the Derbyshire area. I am having trouble getting any new information because there are no living relatives, besides myself. I am in America. Any suggestions?

Hello, bjcglc, and welcome to Rootschat!
If you can find someone who was alive in 1901, you are off and away, as you can use the Census records.
You can order English Birth and Marriage certificates online.
So I'm sure it can be done.
If you'd like to put here what you know (no details of living people are allowed), then we'd all be pleased to help and make suggestions.

Purchase of the birth cert would give you parents names
Presumably Emelia Hammond married Mr Nixon and then Albert brown?
Do you know if Arnold had any siblings?

Yes you have the relationships right. Arnold Nixson, no known peers, was raised by Albert Brown, his stepfather. I don't believe he ever knew his real father who presumably died when he was very young. Thus Emilia was married to Mr. Nixson first and then to Mr. Brown. Yes Nixson is a very unusual name, making this very difficult. Arnold married Constance Beatrice Wood and they had two children. Arnold Charles, the son was killed in 1944. He was RAF. Their daughter Vera, married a U.S. Army Sergent and moved to America.

Thank you for the information. I know the census takers changed spellings often and it would be easy to drop the /s/ in Nixson. I certainly sounds like John could be the father. I will research that a bit.
