Hi Beannie,
Happy New Year to you!
I would like if I may, revisit a look-up you kindly did for me back in August '08. My request comes on the back of subsequent research.
You found a MI at Stoneykirk "Erected by Andrew KELLY in memory of Martha WILSON his Grandmother who died at Dalvaddie 5th Feb 1881 aged 73 years." Was there any further inscription about Andrew himself?
I am sure you would have mentioned it if there had been, but I thought I would just check. I am trying to work out if he was Martha's son Andrew (who moved away from the area) or a grandson.
Also is there any record of Janet LOUGHRIE who died in 1858 and according to her death registration was buried at Stoneykirk? I have found several variations of the surname spelling, including LOUGHERY and LOCHARY which appeared on her Death registration
Kind Regards, M.

Hi Beannie,
Many thanks for checking that Kelly MI.
I'm sorry I had a "senior moment" with the other name!
I meant to say Janet or Jean MANN; her maiden name was Loughrie. So could you check that name please. There were several Manns at Stoneykirk in the mid 1800s so there could be could be others.
Thank you, M.

Hello Macharskin
I am always interested when the name Mann pops up. This is, unfortunately, of no help to you but you may find it curious!
My grandmother's birth certificate states Helen or Ellen Mann Williamson (illegitimate) born 1883 to Jane Williamson (domestic servant) of Back Ramparts, Stranraer. The family lived in Stoneykirk before the 1881 census. We shall never know the reason for this middle name I am sure.
Thought provoking though, isn't it?
Judy

Hello Judy,
As you can see from my recent posts, the Mann family are my current big project!
I have 28 folks by that name from the area (connected to my ancestor Agnes), and the list is growing. I live in hopes that one of them will guide me to the area in Londonderry my ancestor lived between 1838 and 1850 and pre 1800.
I may stumble upon a connection with your grandmother along the way. Regards, M.

Hi M
Thanks for your reply. My grandmother was born 1883 in Back Ramparts, Stranraer. Her mother Jane Williamson was a domestic servant on the 1881 census but unemployed. So the question still remains why did my grandmother have the name Mann as a middle name on her birth certificate? The name Mary also didn't appear in Jane's family at all! Her parents though were married according to the Catholic Church Rites.
Good luck with your research. I see you have posted valuable information about a new Irish site within Family Search. Well done.
J
