SIMPERINGHAM girls of Pampisford
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 00:34 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I have found that Mary SIMPERINGHAM married John WILLIMOTT 1791 in Pampisford.  Ann SIMPERINGHAM married John's brother, Sennitt WILLIMOTT 1797 (in Pallots Marriage Index).  I cannot prove it, but would imagine Ann and Mary are sisters - perhaps Mary being the elder sister.

Does anyone know or know how I can find out?

Cheers

You need to find their baptisms. Pampisford baptisms up to 1783 are on the IGI but your girls don't appear. There were two more girls baptised on 3 April 1781, daughters of Stephen and Susan. Do you have their ages at burial/death, or have you tracked them in any census, to give an idea as to when they were born?

According to the IGI Stephen and Susan married in 1763 in Cambridge, so there's plenty of time between 1763 and 1781 for other children to have been born

Hi Trish, David and Sue

Many thanks for having a look for me and for your great suggestions.

David, I'd been trying to find more in the census but it looks like Mary died before the 1841 census since John is on his own with his daughters from then on.  Sennitt WILLIMOTT doesn't show up as being on any census'.  He was born abt 1761 so he may already have died.  I know he was in London 1825 because he was witness at the marriage of his nephew William WILLIMOTT to Mary Anne FOWLER.

Sue, thank you for your research.  The dates certainly fit for Ann and Mary.

Trish!!!!  I am so mind-boggled at what you've found.  ...it's going to take a while to work throught this.  I see Elizabeth SENNITT there born 1735 and I suspect she is the same Elizabeth SENNITT I have in my tree, the wife of John WILLIMOTT (married St Edwards Cambridge 1756) and mother of John WILLIMOTT jnr. and Sennitt WILLIMOTT (and Thomas and Ann too).  If so, am I right in thinking we have a really close cousin relationship if Elizabeth's and Susanna's children married eachother?

I'll put it on a tree and have a look.

Thanks again for your wonderful input and help.

Cheers
Kate

Hi Trish

I've been going over your information again.  Where you know where to look amazes me!!   I wish I had your talent!!!

First cousins marrying is probably not so unusual, I suppose.

Thanks again for your wonderful help.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Cheers
