WALKER or BROUGHTON Families in Ashington - c1916
« on: Thursday 26 June 08 00:40 BST (UK) »

I am looking for SKS to help me out with this problem.  Cheesy

My Father served in the Merchant Navy pre World War 1 and on the copy of his records in my possession it shows his Next-of-Kin residing in Hirst Street, Ashington, Sussex

Does anybody know of any Records, etc.. available which would give me the names of any WALKER or BROUGHTON families residing in that area, Circ 1916.?

It is thought that my Father may have changed his surname at some time before going to sea, hence the requirement for looking up both surnames.    Also there is no Family Name given on his records as NOK.

Thanking all in anticipation.

Hi Jim
Electoral rolls or street directories are probably the way forward.  Both will be held at the West Sussex Record Office in Chichester.  They are usually very helpful if you contact them direct or you could ask for a look up from a rootschatter who goes there regularly.

Thanks for the suggestion Andrea.    I'll certainly give it a go.
