I was lost now I am found
|
(modified July 08)
I have the wrong census info:
1891 thought was the one aged 5 in Pendleton, Salford then later in 1901 in Eccles but seems to old and father's occupation doesn't match.
Start again:
b. Sept qua 1889 Warrington 8c 169 Arthur Lewis Harrison (WRONG ONE)
d. 28th Feb 1959 age as 69, buried Newton-le-Willows Cemetery (Arthur Lewis HARRISON on gravestone)
~~~~~~~~----------------------------- my link:
Arthur HARRISON m. 1916 aged 29 at Reg Office, Warrington to Nellie LANE he is listed as Prvt 11951 of 6th South Lancs Reg. (& general labourer) (his father is listed as deceased Henry Harrison, stereotyper)
can anyone help locate him in 1891 / 1901, thank you!
Have you got his birth certificate for his mother's maiden name?
There is no 1891 or 1901 entry with a father Henry. I have also tried under Lewis just in case
I thought I wasn't going mad!
I am stumped by this one.
Looks like I'll have to save up for that birth certificate after all!
Thanks for looking and all your help!
Best wishes,
Ian.
I looked at all the possibles as well, fathers were coal miners etc. I'm wondering if his mother re-married fairly sharpish, and he would be under his stepfather's name, but without having a name for the mother............
Hi,
Try the one in Leeds on the 1891 census:
RG12/3704 folio 26 page 3.
Henry is aged 40 and a printers stereotyper born Newton le William , Lancashire.
Regards, Mo
Thanks Mo that seems more likely but I also wondered if "Henry" was his father's middle name?
Deaths Mar 1901, Leeds 9b 339 HARRISON Henry (50)
shot in the dark but you never know!
Hi,
Can I ask where the middle name Lewis comes from? He married as plain Arthur Harrison.
There was an Arthur Lewis Harrison born c.1889 and living in Haydock with father Richard in the 1891. This I suspect is the one registered in Warrington.
Regards, Mo
It's on the gravestone at Newton Cemetery with his wife Nellie and as quoted by my Nan - so never questioned it.
Marriage cert states father as Henry and wife is Nellie Lane with the right father of John Lane and occupation. Yes, he is only listed as plain Arthur on it though.
Thought the Lewis might be a mother's maiden name or grandfathers name!?!
Sorry to be confusing everyone!
Hi,
I just hate to add to the confusion, but an Arthur L Harrison married a Nellie Baskerville in 1919 - registration district Warrington. Two Arthur Harrisons marrying a Nellie - who would have thought it?
Could it have been their grave that you found as the age would match the younger Arthur Lewis Harrison born 1889c.
Regards, Mo
I tried the cremation records today on the St Helens council website and found a few possibles:
Arthur HARRISON crem May 1968
Nellie HARRISON crem May 1971 & Nelly HARRISON crem May 1967 (less likely I think due to spelling)
If only cremation records gave more details!
Can't believe they were all in May!!
Hi,
I think mosiefish might have the right one in 1891
Looking at the details of Arthur's Medal Card,
http://www.rootschat.com/links/03wm/
it shows two regimental numbers for him, the one you already have 'South Lancashire Regiment 11951 Private' and 'Labour Corps 125278 Private'
looking up the second number at Ancstry 'British Army WWI Pension Records 1914-1920' I found,
No: 125278 Arthur HARRISON Labour Corps Date of Discharge: 17.12.17 Place of Discharge: Nottingham Age: 30 years 10 months Height: 5 feet 6 inches Complexion: Sallow Eyes: Hazel Hair: Light Brown Trade: Driller Intended place of Residence: 38 Lawrence St, Earlestown, Lancs
Medical History Arthur HARRISON POB: Leeds Yorks Examined: 1st Sept 1914, Legh?? Earlestown Declared Age: 27 Trade: Driller Height: 5 feet 61/2 inches Weight: 132 lbs Chest: 35 inches Labour Corps 125278 South Lancs 11951
DOB: 2.1.1887 Married: 27/4/16
There are 10 images, I think I have transcribed the most important info but I haven't transcribed all the medical details. If you can't access these records you could PM me your email address and I will send the images to you
Regards Daisy
Wow! thanks Daisy, fantastic stuff.
I guess it was Legh Street, Earlestown, Lancs in the medical history you listed?!
38 Lawrence St would have originally been Nellie's Grandparent LANEs' home.
So much detail, almost feel I know him!
