Grandfather's Birth Certificate *Completed*
« on: Friday 27 June 08 08:38 UTC (UK) »

I have a hand written certified copy of my grandfather's birth certificate he obtained  in July, 1916.

It says:

1888 Birth in the Sub-District of Huntingdon in the County of Huntingdon.

No. 314
When and Where Born:  Fifteenth April 1888 Manchester Place Huntingdon U.S.D.

Could someone please tell me what the U.S.D. stands for?

yikesssss  It's like "Hello baby, Welcome to the Sewer"  Almost wished I hadn't asked.

Thanks for the link it makes sense now in a strange kind of way.  But I guess sanitation services were new and considered an asset and showed a distinction in the level of government.   Guess it's preferable to being born in an Unsanitary District  Grin Grin

Thanks again.
