A lot depends on what you mean by Hermitage Chapel. Which one?

The records for any C or E chapel pre 1839 will be in the Hampstead Norris PRs (IGI has them to 1812). These PRs to 1837 are transcribed but not available to purchase (copies at BRO, Maidenhead Library and possibly SOG, Reading or Newbury libraries.

The PRs of Holy Trinity, the parish church of Hermitage since 1839 are not transcribed.

The nonconformist chapel (Primitive Methodist) will be recorded in the Newbury circuit records held at the BRO (who also seem to have a transcript or index for the earliest register 1831-1869). Eureka may get round to publishing these at some point.

Hello,
Thank you for that. All I know is from the marriage cert of George Sellwood and Elizabeth Simpson in 1845 Hermitage Chapel, Parish of Hampstead Norreys, so I presume, the C of E Chapel.  Both at that time were living in Bucklebury Alley. However, some of  this branch of the Sellwoods were non-conformist..........

I know enough about George, but Elizabeth (no father on cert) is still a mystery and was born 1824 East Garston or Aston(censuses). She was buried 1862 Bucklebury.
The marr cert has two witnesses, one, Mary Boseley, the other William    surname looks like Austud.

What I was hoping to be able to do was to find from PRs if either of these two are in any way connected to Elizabeth which may lead me to her.
Thanks anyway.
Regards

Hi Vic

Have you seen Elizabeth in 1841?

She is with a sister Mary Simpson aged 12 and in a houseold with George Walter (aged 45) Philadelphia Walter (aged 45) and Ann Walter (aged 10)  all living in Bucklebury Alley,  there is a chance that Philadephia is the mother of the 2 girls and George Walter is her second husband - just a possibility

I have found Philadelphia in 51, 61 & 71 - she was buried in Bucklebury in 1875 aged 87,  sadly she does not seem to know where she was born in 51 she says Bucks,  and in 61 & 71 she says Kent,  not sure how much help any of this is

Hello Debbie
It is a great help.  At last I have someone to look for. I had not got the 1841 entry although I have Berkshire originals (unindexed) on cd. I must have missed it somehow.  I will have another look. Many thanks.
