Where was Lily Buried ? Kelloe ?
« on: Friday 13 November 09 10:59 UTC (UK) »

Hello..
Is there anyone that knows the Kelloe area?
If someone was not buried at St Helens Kelloe..where would the nearest C/E church be..
I would so love to know where my Grandmother was buried..
Her name was Lily Lowther (maiden name Barrow)
she died in 1947 age 60..she died in a house at Kelloe..
I have been looking for ages now..on different sites on here..
tried St Helens and St Pauls at Quarrington Hill..
Many thanks

There's nothing on the NBI (Kelloe only goes up to 1837 on there) but if you know the date she died then you could get whichever is the main library for that area to do a look up for a death announcement in the local paper which may give funeral arrangements.

Chrissie,

presumably you've actually checked the Kelloe burial records, rather than just looking for a memorial stone?

Hi.. I found a site that listed burials at different churches..
I found a list for St Helens...nothing on there,
St Pauls Quarrington ...I found listed Lilys parents .
I have looked and looked on Durham records on line...
I have walked around St Helens church many times now just looking but I dont hold out any hope there..
I am not brilliant at all this...but do try..
I will phone a couple of Librarys on Monday to see if they could help..
I wont be going back to Durham until the Summer..
Many thanks

What was the 'St. Helen's list' you found?

You definitely won't find her on Durham records Online, because their burial records for Kelloe only go up to 1852.

You really need to check the full burial register for Kelloe first if you haven't already done so.

Have you got Lily's death certificate?

Chrissie,

I wonder if this was the list you loked at http://www.interment.net/data/eng/durham/sthelen/index.htm

If so, this is not a complete list of burials, as is made clear at the top of the page.

Do you have her death certificate and thus know exactly when she died?

Hi..
Yes it was St Helens...I have not set for death cert..only marriage.
The sites I have looked at are earlier dates..not as late as 1947..
Lily definately died in a house in Kelloe..

So did Lily live at Kelloe or just die there?

If her home address wasn't Kelloe then she may be buried elsewhere.

You really need her death cert.

Darlington Library have the Northen Echo, but without the date won't be able to help find a death notice for her.

The same with Durham Records Office, they have St Helen's burial register until 1979.

Cheers

Chrissie,

Lily died in the last quarter (October - November - December) of 1947.

I suggest you send an email to Durham County Record Office (email address can be found here http://nd.durham.gov.uk/recordoffice/usp.nsf/pws/Durham+Record+Office+-+Contact+Us ) . Tell them when Lily died and ask if they might be able to check the Kelloe burial records for that quarter for you.

If they find the burial they will send you a photocopy for a small charge.
