Help please with thomas wilkinson

I was wondering if someone could help. I have a Thomas Wilkinson who married Elizabeth Speight in 1879. He is my 2 x great grandad and was born in 1855/56. I have lots of info on him after he was married but have no idea where he is from.
I have spent ages trying to trace him.
I  have Thomas and Elizabeths marriage cert and the info from this is
Father William Wilkinson, Schoolmaster  Deceased.
The witnessess were James Beaumont and A B lovell.
Thomas gives his place of residence as Cutler heights lane, Bowling.
I know at this point he was living with Elizabeth and her parents.
What I dont know is where is he originally from and where do I find out?
I know there is a William Wilkinson in Batley who is a schoolmaster but he was still living in 1881 so this cant be him as thomas has him as deceased in 1879.

Any help would be appreciated.

does he give any birthplaces in 1881 census and later?

with such a common name we cannot be certain that you and us are looking at the same census unless you give the refs...

iN 1881 he is still living with Elizabeth Speights parent and gives his birthplace as cutler heights lane.
In 1891 he is living in birkenshaw st pauls  hunsworth.
rg12/3608 folio 131 page 10
and still giving place of birth as cutler heights lane.
Then in 1901 he gives his place of birth as Dudley hill
