Ann Coulthard nee Dixon
« on: Friday 27 June 08 22:39 UTC (UK) »

I'm hoping someone out there can help with one of my "Brick walls".

I'm trying to find the parents of my 4xgrandmother Ann Dixon who married William Coulthard abt. 1825 in Wetheral (presumably).  According to Census information she could be born anywhere between 1800-1803 in either Ireby or Wetheral (I lean towards Ireby).

I realise this is not a lot of information to go on but thought it was worth having a try posting!

Angie, have you checked the IGI?

The Hugh Wallis site shows none in Wetheral in your timeframe, but a couple in Ireby:

Ann Dixon chr 30 Jan 1807
Father Joseph
mother Mary Forester

Hannah Dixon
chr 8 Jul 1804
father George
mother Hannah Ray

Ann Dixon chr 8 Apr 1815
father George
mother Hannah

If you haven't already done so you can see them here:

I have seen the IGI records you posted, which is why I tend to lean toward Ireby.  I've got a feeling they may not have actually been married which makes it harder to pin down her father's name, I guess I'll just have to hope there is a marriage out there!

Many thanks for taking the time to answer my post,

Hi carol margaret, welcome to RootsChat Smiley

I'm afraid the facts are not quite what you thought -

1901 census
Cote House Tower, Wetheral
John COULTHARD 43 Ordinary Ag Lab, Wetheral
Margaret 43 Brampton
Eliz? 20 Bewcastle
Rebecca 16
Herbert H 13
Mary Sarah 11
John 9
Jane 8
William 7
Ethel 5
Isabella 4
Others born Wetheral

The 1891 census shows two other children (making 11 in all)
Margaret (between Elizabeth and Rebecca
Annie (between Rebecca and Herbert
They were living in the same house but John was then a Quarry Labourer.

Hi, Carol Margaret & GeoffE.

I've just noticed your posts.  This sounds like my family.  I've also got the same children, although my grandmother, who was the daughter of Margaret b. 1882, always told of her mother being one of many (she thought about 17 children!).

John Coulthard was married to Margaret Byers on 6th November 1879 at Bewcastle, Cumberland, England (I have a copy of the marriage certificate).

I'd be happy to pass on any information I have if you'd like to send me a personal message.

Hi carol,
Im graham living in Blackpool and am have been researching my wife's family of the Dixons who lived at "hole Beck" farm in West Broughton Cumbria, near Ulverston during the 19th century.I know that kirby with Ireleth is only a small way distance and wonder whether you may be related.
The list of these Dixons contains the eldest "clara Jane (born 1877),,her sisters,...sarah vickers ,alice agnes and bessie, plus 4 brothers,James joseph,John and fred, some of whom fought in WW1.
I also am related to the Richardsons of Batley west yorkshire, but this may be way off your radar.
Good hinting,cheers,graham
