From Essex Bird's Barnston baptism transcripts I found Robert the son of Richard & Mary Barnard baptised 23 Sep 1660.
Having searched Barnston transcripts it appears that Robert Barnard did not marry or raise a family in Barnston nor was he buried there.
I believe that this Robert is the Robert Barnard (my ancestor) who married Elizabeth ? somewhere, circa 1685, then baptised two sons Richard 1691 and Joseph 1695 at Good Easter.
Richard Barnard 1691 married Esther Gladen at Gt Waltham 16 Oct 1714, Richard & Esther baptised five children (four daughters and one son) in Gt Waltham, they of course named the son Richard and a daughter Esther. They also named one daughter Elizabeth and one Mary, although both are common christian names, it is possible that Elizabeth was named after Richard's mother and Mary after Richard's grandmother, i.e. Robert's mother.
I would be interested to hear if anyone else descends from this Robert Barnard or if anyone disagrees with my scenario, any comments, advice etc gratefully received.
Regards

Hi Suffolk Sue,
First of all the Good Easter marriage of Robert Barnard to Elizabeth Newington 1681 is very interesting, looks like the couple I'm looking for, I'll definitely follow it up next UK/Essex visit, the date of 1681 confirms my theory that they had children baptised elsewhere, hopefully Good Easter.
I know of the Richard Bernard and Mary Nayler/Nailor marriage at Barnston 21 Oct 1656 via Essex Bird's transcripts but not having access to Boyd's didn't know of the Gt Dunmow entry, another one to check out I guess. If the info had come from the IGI instead of Boyd's it wouldn't be such a mystery!
I am wondering if the Thaxted marriage of Richard Bernard to Mary Pamflin was his first marriage and the one to Mary Nayler his second, or perhaps there was another Richard Bernard lurking at Thaxted? Yet another check needed, my search list gets longer by the minute.
Thanks for the info Sue, much appreciated.
Regards

Not as early as the marriages you are looking for, I know, but do you know this transcription website for Boyd? I have found it useful sometimes. Perhaps the site owner would be able to help if you e-mailed him??
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~boydsindex/Boydsindexl.htm
Best wishes,
Edwina (I am researching lots of surnames in the Great & Little Waltham / Great & Little Leighs / High & Good Easter parishes and surrounding parishes)

Hi EAP,
Yes I have found that site but thanks anyway for the tip off. I haven't visited it in a while though because it appears that most entries are for the 1800s and I have only one ancestor of that time frame, the elusive Joseph Harris c1806 supposedly born in Lt Coggeshall. I did find a marriage on that site, from memory, Joseph Harris married a Lucy ?(someone) at Newport 1802, followed it up but it fizzled out.
