Hi!
Could somebody please check the 1841 census for William H Woodruff born in Shottisham, Suffolk, in about 1822. I need the household please as I have no idea who his parents were.
In advance, thank you for your help.
Steph.

Hi Steph,
There are two possible Williams in Suffolk, one born 1818 Wangford and one 823 Woodbridge, and as Woodbridge is near Shottisham this may be the one:
HO107 piece 1028 folio 17 page 26 Sun Lane, Woodbridge Sarah WOODRUFF 60 Ind. William " 20 Mariner Susan MAYHEW 20 D. M. all born Suffolk
Not much to go on, although if your William is the one married to Susan in later census he was a carpenter/joiner. Do you have his marriage certificate to show his father's name and occupation?

Yes I can see the William H married to a Susan in the later census, carpenter, so if you can find the marriage, then at least you'd know his father's name. Another William I found in 1841 was a bricklayer.
If your friend has one of the children's birth certs showing Susan's maiden name, that would help to find the marriage, (can't see one at the moment), and then that should show both their fathers' names and occupations.
Oh, have just found another possible, the one I mentioned earlier in Wangford having looked at the image, he is a carpenter!
1841 HO107 piece 1039 folio 21 page 2 The Score, North Gate, Beccles, Wangford, Suffolk WOODROFFE Thomas 48 Builder Suffolk Sarah 46 not b. Suffolk William 23 Carpenter b. Suffolk
will try to find these parents in 1851 Kind regards, Barbara
