Who was Elizabeth Maghie aged 10 living with in 1851

Elizabeth was the daughter of James Maghie and Mary Lowthian she was born Carlisle ?? Cumberland

In 1851 Her father James has re-married and she is not with him

Her grandparents are Thomas and Elizabeth Lowthain
could she be with them

so presumably Elizabeth is the older Elizabeth's brother's daughter

This is my family and James 1812 is my grt grt grandfather I have this with a bit of a confusion with his age but then I've been told you cannot go from what is printed sometimes
James eloped to Gretna Green in October 1847 to marry Anne Young they had 10 children
Anne was his second wife ( this I found out from a GR relative searching the same family ) ???He was killed in1867 aged 49 so that makes him born 1818 .So Mary his first wife must have died between 1841 and 1847 .I have just looked into my family tree and found James had a sister Elizabeth so this solves the problem .Sister Elizabeth Maghie married Thomas Lowthian and Brother James Maghie married Thomas's sister Mary .Its beginning to make sense now .This is the second time this has happened in my family . so now I need to find out who Elizabeth married .I think I will send for her birth certificate to see if I can find out more about her .Thanks too Geoff

BMD have an Elizabeth Maghie marriage at W Derby March 1859  Smiley
this could be about right as she would be 19yrs old

there are two males to pick from Patrick Burns and James Mitchell

do I have to send for a marriage certificate to find out if this is Elizabeth

and I suppose i could enter the two mens names

Hang on and I'll try to eliminate them from looking at the 1861 census

If you do want to buy the cert, you can always ask the local reg office to check any known details before you buy (or you can pay a fee for that if you order through the GRO)

Sorry can't see Elizabeth married to either of those two, in 1861 census.  There's a Patrick Burns married to an Elizabeth who was born Wigan, did you realise West Derby is in Lancashire?
