Does anyone have links with the Badcock family from Wartling.
I am looking for any details of William Badcock born about 1709 in Wartling according to various submitted records on the IGI.
The only details I have for him are as the parents of Mary Badcock who was baptised 3 March 1735 in Wartling, Sussex and that he married Elizabeth Moor in 1733.

May well be. One of the more promising submitted entries on the IGI is this one
William Badcock christened 22 FEB 1707 Wartling Parents William and Mary Burial 9 SEP 1773

Hi Jan
I've just been checking them out myself and some family trees on A******y. Now I have a puzzle, I was given the details for Mary who married John Carey as baptised 1735, daughter of William and Elizabeth.
However this tree has Mary baptised 1748 daughter of Edward and Margaret Skinner. Only problem with that is that she would have been 15 when she married John in 1763. Hmmm
I shall have to try and find her death as Mary Carey, maybe that will give me a date of birth.
I love these confusions

Hi Kerry
I see your problem, could be either of them. 0f course if it were the younger one she should be noted as 'by consent of parents' in the marriage entry - not that always happens one of mine was definitely only 15 when she married but is 'of full age' on her marriage cert
Good luck sorting this one out

I'm sure ancestors delight in confusing us - I have a Wandell Allsopp whose parentage I cannot confirm, I do have his age at death but it puts him slap bang in the middle of the 2 possibilities But as you say the confusions are great.

Typical
It could always be the second one who was baptised a few years after birth?
I am sure if it was all easy we would be nearly so enthusiastic about this hobby!

Hi Toni
Yep thats the one I found. Trouble is she would have been 15 when she married John Carey in 1763 unless of course she was not baptised as a baby but as a child.
Do you know how old she was when she died and where she died?

To bring this up to date:
I am now becoming convinced that the Mary who married John Carey was actually the younger one. I think this because their children were born between 1764 and 1784 and if the mother was born 1735 as originally thought, she would have been 49 when the last child was born which is a bit unlikely, or at least I think so.

Also just found her burial on findmypast and you might be interested in this toni*
The death as you mentioned 1819 gives her age as 76 years meaning she was born 1743 so as I guessed she was 4 when baptised not just born and therefore 20 when she married
