Abraham Heckler abt 1739
« on: Saturday 22 January 05 19:56 GMT (UK) »

I'm Looking for the baptism of Abraham Heckler about 1739.
He married in Fylingdales North Yorkshire in 1775. He is not in the parish records as being baptised there.

I know there are Heckler's in the East Ridings and York at this time (some with biblical first names).
Has anyone researched this family or have any information about Abraham? Kiss
Thank you

The reason you can't find him is because the parish records prior to 1740 are not on the IGI but  see this from Genuki
C 1653-1848; MSTNI; NYRO

which means according to the abbreviations list, manuscript trascript no index, North Yorks Record Office
He's probably in there

Hello Catswhiskers,
Thanks for your reply.

I have looked at the BT's 1600-1881 for Fylingdales and found no other Heckler baptisms or Marriages from 1700 to the time he leaves about 1777 to have his other children in Scarborough. I also checked for any misspelling of the name

I can only think he was an "Incomer" to Fylingdales?

I have looked on the Genuki site as you suggested and found the reference to the records but was not able to access them.
My wife spent about 3 hours going through the site with no joy.
Thanks again
Keith

Oh Dear I think I did not express myelf well. The transcripts are at the County Records Office, the IGI coverage only starts as 1740

Obviously he would have married in the bride's parish.

There are a clutch of Hecklers in Bedale, which isn't so far away

I found an isolated heckler in the Bridlington Marriages,
25th October 1810

John Heckler bachelor  to Ann Thirwall  spinster both of this parish
He signed she made a mark

no other Heckler in the registers

Huh
Hello Catswhiskers,
My apologies for not replying to your reply on 09-February as I did not receive a notification?Huh

I believe John who married Ann Thirwall in Bridlington in 1810 was the 4th. son of Abraham and a brother to my ancestor Charles. I think John and Ann moved to Lythe (East Barnby - outside Whitby) and had a large family which developed even larger over 2 generations.

There are clutches of Hecklers all over the North East at this time.
I am interested in one particular Heckler family from  Calverley / Pudsey where there was a Charles born 1739 (the date for Abraham). I have found marriages and deaths for most of his siblings but nothing for this Charles.

I am waiting for the records of the Heckler births  from Calverley to see if Abraham and Charles could be twins or the same person??  More research needed I think.
Once again thanks for the reply.
